25 countries suspend package deliveries to US over new tariff rules

As worries about the effects of President Donald Trump‘s impending tariffs increase, the United Nations postal service announced on Tuesday that 25 nations have chosen to halt package delivery to the United States.

According to the Trump administration, starting on August 29, the tax exemption for small packages entering the US would be eliminated.

Postal systems in France, Germany, India, Australia, and other nations have announced that they will no longer accept the majority of shipments headed for the United States as a result of the decision.

“Postal operators of 25 member countries… have already advised us that they have suspended their outbound postal services to the US, citing uncertainties specifically related to transit services,” the United Nations Universal Postal Union said.

The statement continued, “These suspensions will remain in place pending actual implementation of the required operational changes as well as additional information on how US authorities will operationalize (their announced) measures.”
