On August 29, Nigerian music icon Tiwa Savage will release her new album, This One Is Personal, marking her much anticipated comeback to the music industry.
Her five-year break from significant releases is over with this, her first full-length project since 2020’s Celia.
Savage said on Tuesday on her X account that the 13-track album, which has a very personal Afrobeats vibe, addresses themes of suffering, development, and resiliency.
The project, which was recorded in Nashville, London, and Lagos, includes a few collaborations, such as rising artist Taves and UK rapper Skepta.
Since this record tells my experience, I didn’t include many features.
“I wanted every song to make you all feel something. The few elements I included were carefully chosen, with individuals who could enhance the message without detracting from its intimacy and who shared the idea. In an X fan Q&A, Savage stated, “It’s more about connection than it is about numbers.”
Savage claimed the project depicts her personal journey over the previous five years, juggling job transitions, parenting, and self-discovery. Savage has mostly refrained from releasing a complete studio album since 2020.
The hashtag #ThisOneIsPersonal has been used by fans all around the world to interact with the artist as she responds to inquiries regarding the album’s production and the backstories of each song.
