ASUU Expresses Frustration Over Federal Government’s Inaction

The Federal Government’s delay on issues impacting union members has been deemed unacceptable by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Additionally, the Federal Government committee led by Abel Enitan, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, provided requirements for accepting the counteroffer to the 2009 agreement.

On Thursday, Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, stated that a technical group led by Enitan was draughting a clean plan to submit to ASUU.

“We have chosen to present them with a counterproposal. At a press briefing, Alausa informed reporters, “We are now closing by assembling a top-level technical team to polish our proposal and deliver a clean document.”

The most recent agreement between ASUU and the Federal Government was struck in 2009.

In order to improve the welfare of lecturers, the union is currently calling for a review of the agreement.

Speaking on the Federal Government’s counter offer, ASUU National President Chris Piwuna stated that the union will only accept a physical counter-offer.

“I sincerely hope that they will provide something concrete. Speaking to reporters, Piwuna stated, “Our members are sick of hearing words and seeing no action.”
