Former Premier League referee charged with child abuse image offense.

David Coote, a former Premier League referee, has been accused of creating an offensive image of a child.

The 43-year-old Coote was fired from his officiating position in December when it was discovered that he had made disparaging comments about former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in 2020 on camera.

Creating an indecent image of a kid includes actions like downloading, sharing, or storing images or recordings of abuse.

Coote, who is now on restricted release after being accused on August 12, is scheduled to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

According to the force, the accusation is related to a video that Nottinghamshire Police officers found in February.

After another video surfaced showing Coote inhaling a white powder through a banknote at Euro 2024 in Germany, the European governing body, UEFA, suspended him from officiating until June 2026.

He came out as gay in an interview in January and claimed that his inability to conceal his sexual orientation had led to poor decisions.
