Speaker Obasa Addresses Speculations on His 2027 Ambition

Mr. Mudashiru Obasa, the speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has denied rumours that he has announced his next political move in advance of the general elections in 2027.

In response to rumours that followed his appearance on TVC’s Beyond The Headlines program, Obasa emphasised that he had not declared his intention to run for governor or to become a senator.

He clarified that the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, or APC, alone has the authority to decide his political future and that of all other members.

“As a politician, you have to wait for the party hierarchy to decide where they want you to go, whether that be as a senator, governor, or lawmaker,” he said. The party’s plans should not be misrepresented or misunderstood by the public. Allow all tension to subside. How to advance the nation is our top priority. According to Obasa, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is making great strides every day.

The Speaker stated he is still considering life beyond public service, but he insisted he is not leaving politics just yet.

“Those of us in the APC are family, Nigeria is our home, and our party is our strength.” He said, “The APC is growing stronger every day.”

Obasa emphasised the need to strike a balance between party discipline and ambition. “There comes a time when you are unable to decide for yourself what comes next. Consultation and interaction with party leaders are crucial whether one is serving as Speaker, Deputy Governor, Governor, or Senator, he continued.
