FG: Nigeria’s Crude Oil Production Rises to 1.8 Million Barrels Per Day

According to Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), the country’s oil production increased from 1 million barrels per day to 1.8 million barrels per day. He added that the goal is to reach 2.5 million barrels per day because American businesses are already very interested in investing in Nigerian oil blocks.

During a panel discussion at the first Africa Energy Investment summit (AE Invest 2025), which was recently held in New York, Senator Lokpobiri emphasised Africa’s regained confidence and the revival of investment in the continent’s energy industry.

“Africa is still at the mercy of financiers in London, Paris, and New York, despite possessing 40% of the world’s discoveries of natural resources.” We must establish the African Energy Bank, mobilise our sovereign wealth and pension funds, and ensure Africa’s legitimate position as a global energy leader since energy finance is a matter of sovereignty.

“The United Nations General Assembly, UNGA, brings all our leaders and investors together, making it the ideal platform to connect, engage, and unlock funding for Africa’s energy future,” stated H E Dr. Omar Farouk Ibrahim, secretary general of the African Petroleum Producers Organisation, or APPO, the summit’s organiser.
