Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president and presidential candidate, has called President Bola Tinubu’s administration “unmoved and uncaring” for failing to address Nigeria’s growing hunger and insecurity.
In a statement on his X platform to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th anniversary of independence, Atiku bemoaned the fact that, in spite of the nation’s wealth in material and human resources, millions of Nigerians had been degraded to the status of refugees and beggars.
Atiku remarked, “It is tragic that millions of our people have been reduced to refugees and beggars in their fatherland in a country blessed with immense human and material resources.”
“The welfare and security of its population are the top priorities for any responsible administration. However, the administration we currently have has deserted its citizens. President Tinubu and his cabinet look on indifferently as hunger kills Nigerians and bandits massacre towns.
Atiku underlined how democracy helps keep leaders responsible, pointing out that voters can overthrow incompetent regimes. “The power of the ballot is what makes democracy so beautiful. Despite how oppressed and beaten our people may feel right now, they have a chance to overthrow this incompetent government when the next elections are held. “No cabal can take away that power from the people,” he said.
“At 65, Nigeria remains a giant moving painfully slowly on feet of clay, a direct result of decades of poor leadership and wasteful governance,” Atiku remarked in reflection of the country’s current situation. Nevertheless, our beloved nation can still emerge from the ashes of poor leadership and restore its proper position in the international community.
In closing, he wished Nigerians a happy Independence Day and called for a renewed dedication to leadership and good administration that put the security and well-being of the populace first.
