Kidnap Kingpin Evans Re-arraigned by Lagos for Murder of Two Cops

In connection with the alleged murder of two police officers, Evans, also known as Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, the convicted billionaire kidnapper, was re-arraigned before Lagos State High Court Judge Oyindamola Ogala on Monday.

Evans and his co-defendant, Joseph Ikenna Emeka, are involved in the case, which was transferred from the Ikeja Division’s Justice Adenike Coker.

Nelson Onyejiakor represented Emeka, Charity O. represented Evans, and A. O. Azeez, the prosecution attorney, represented the Lagos State Government at the resumption of the proceedings.

Azeez notified the court that the case had been moved and asked that the defendants be re-arraigned. He said that the procedure would not be impacted by any ongoing plea bargain submissions that had been submitted to Justice Coker in the past.

Following that, the defendants were re-arraigned on a modified five-count charge that included attempted murder, murder, conspiracy to commit a felony, including kidnapping, and attempted murder.

Evans and Emeka committed the charges on or around August 27, 2013, the prosecutor informed the court.

According to him, the event happened along Third Avenue in Festac Town, Lagos, at around ten o’clock at night.

According to Azeez, Peter Nweke was allegedly murdered by Evans and Emeka.

They were also charged with killing a man named Chijioke Ngozi at the same time and place.

The prosecution claims that the offences violated Section 221 of the Lagos State 2011 Criminal Law.

Both Evans and Emeka entered not guilty pleas.

Evans had previously been found guilty in two of the five distinct criminal trials he was facing, which involved accusations of kidnapping and murder.

He is presently being tried in three different criminal cases.

In order to allow for a hearing and the issuance of witness summonses, Justice Ogala postponed the matter to November 19, 2025.
