[BREAKING] Hardship: Nigeria Customs Announces Plan To Distribute Food Items Nationwide

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced its preparedness to distribute confiscated food items to the citizens to alleviate the current challenges faced in the country.

In a statement issued on Tuesday (today), the NCS said the distribution process will commence once all the food items have been verified safe for consumption.

Recently, numerous citizens have trooped out en mass to protest against the prevailing difficulties and the high prices of food items.

In response to the pressing issues of food security and the escalating costs of essential food items in Nigeria, the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, revealed the service’s initiative to distribute seized food items to the public.

The National Public Relations Officer of the service, CSC Abdullahi Maiwada, stated in a release on Tuesday that this action underscores the Comptroller General’s dedication to advancing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s food security program.

This commitment is firmly grounded in the service’s fundamental duty of prioritizing the welfare of the Nigerian populace, thereby promoting economic stability and prosperity.

He emphasized that the urgent necessity underscores the importance of taking proactive measures to ensure food availability in Nigeria and mitigate the adverse impacts of scarcity on the citizens.

Maidawa said: “Furthermore, to alleviate the hardships faced by Nigerians and improve access to essential food items, the Nigeria Customs Service will facilitate the direct disposal of food items forfeited to the Federal Government. These items will be certified fit for consumption by relevant agencies and made available to ordinary Nigerians nationwide through equitable distribution in our Areas of Operations.

“The modalities for the disposal will be communicated through NCS formations nationwide, with a firm commitment to transparency, fairness, and public safety. We pledge that this exercise will be managed diligently to ensure that the benefits reach those most in need.

“The NCS remains resolute in its dedication to safeguarding the nation’s food security and advancing the economic well-being of all Nigerians. With the unwavering support and cooperation of the public, we will surmount these challenges and pave the way for a more prosperous future for our beloved nation,” he added.
