Give Tinubu More Time – Former Lawmaker, Ogunlewe Speaks On Food Scarcity, Hardship In Nigeria
The former representative of Lagos East Senatorial District, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, has emphasized the importance of investing in research and establishing industrial estates as crucial measures to address the escalating cost of food items in the country.
Ogunlewe made this observation in a recent interview.
In recent months, the prices of food have soared due to the skyrocketing cost of living nationwide. To tackle this issue, Senator Ogunlewe proposes that the government should make the right investments in research and revive the creation of industrial estates, similar to those established decades ago.
He highlights the need for the government to create industrial estates where research can be conducted on various commodities, and subsequently process and distribute them.
Currently, over half of the produced food is wasted due to lack of processing.
During an interview on Tuesday’s episode of Channels Television’s Politics Today, Senator Ogunlewe emphasized the failure of the Federal Government to create industrial estates, which has contributed to the current situation.
He expressed his sorrow over the ongoing neglect of research in the country, emphasizing its crucial role in ensuring food security and societal progress.
“There are professors in all our universities that are only doing research on rice – new varieties of rice; they are doing research on a daily basis on them,” he said.
“Let the Federal Government invest in what we have, we will produce a lot better. But when you don’t invest in research in your country, and you think your country is going to grow, it is very difficult.”
“Invest in them; give them more money for research,” the former lawmaker maintained.
Following a rapid increase in the price of food commodities, demonstrations have erupted in various regions of Nigeria as citizens have taken to the streets to voice their concerns about the situation.
Nevertheless, Senator Ogunlewe remains hopeful and urges Nigerians to exercise patience with President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“We are going to get it. Nigerians should just be patient,” he said.
“Give him time. This hunger will last another three months.”
