Advocates for Democracy and Development (ADD), a Civil Society Organization (CSO), has emphasized that individuals advocating for a military coup in Nigeria as a solution to the current economic challenges are taking advantage of the security issues in the nation.

The group’s Convener, Gbenga Osho, made this assertion in a press release issued on Monday in Abuja.

He pointed out that those pushing for a coup are the adversaries of Nigeria who aim to instigate disorder in society, especially after witnessing the military’s progress in combating bandits, terrorists, and other criminal elements.

Osho condemned the coup plotters as “cruel and regressive”, underscoring that their intentions were not in the best interest of the country.

The convener of the group expressed his appreciation for the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, commending him for issuing a strong warning to those advocating for a coup d’état.

Additionally, he highlighted that the defence chief referred to the coup plotters as “enemies of Nigeria” and emphasized that the full force of the law would be used to suppress them.

The convener emphasized that Gen. Musa had clearly stated that the Armed Forces of Nigeria were dedicated to safeguarding democracy.

Osho acknowledged that the military had consistently made sacrifices to ensure the safety and stability of the nation, and he emphasized that it had played a crucial role in strengthening democracy in the country.

“We are glad that time and time again, the present leadership of the Armed Forces of Nigeria under Gen. Christopher Musa has said the military is loyal to the constitution and President Bola Tinubu.

“We in ADD urge Nigerians to continue to support the military under Gen Musa who have shown determination to quickly restore peace and stability and remain loyal to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the group noted.
