Peter Obi Awards Scholarship To Kano Keke Rider Who Returned Missing N15 Million
Awwalu Salisu, a 23-year-old commercial tricyclist from Kano, has been humbled with a series of rewards for his remarkable display of honesty.
In 2023, Salisu found and returned a sum of N15 million left in his tricycle by a Chadian businessman. As a result, he has been granted a scholarship worth N250 million, which will support his education up to the PhD level.
This generous offer was presented to Awwalu during the annual conference and awards ceremony of LEADERSHIP Media Group, where he was recognized as the ‘Outstanding Young Person of the Year 2023’.
The first person to extend this scholarship was Peter Obi, a fellow awardee and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), who was honored as the ‘LEADERSHIP Politician of the Year 2023’.
Following this, the Governor of Niger State and co-winner of the ‘LEADERSHIP Governor of the Year Award’, Mohammed Umar Bago, playfully remarked that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) should not be overshadowed by the Labour Party.
In response, Bago announced an additional N250 million scholarship for Awwalu, aiming to acknowledge his honesty and inspire other young Nigerians to embrace this virtue.
Bago mentioned that Awwalu will receive a scholarship of N50m each from him, President Bola Tinubu, his Ministers, APC Governors Forum, and the Niger State government.
Additionally, he stated that he plans to dedicate one of the road projects he is currently working on in Niger State to the Kano Keke rider.
