BREAKING: Edo State House Of Assembly Moves To Impeach Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu
The Edo State House Of Assembly is preparing to initiate impeachment proceedings against the State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, and has served him with an impeachment notice.
Reliable sources disclosed that the lawmakers made this decision during their session on Wednesday, 6th March, 2024.
Shaibu’s impeachment notice may be linked to his recent conflict with Governor Godwin Obaseki, which resulted in his defeat during the recent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial election primaries in the state.
It is worth noting that Shaibu had previously raised concerns about a plot to impeach him, attributing it to his governorship aspirations.
During the primaries, he was elected through a parallel election held at his residence in Benin City, the state capital.
Additionally, Asue Ighodalo emerged as the winner of another PDP primary exercise that took place at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.
The embattled deputy governor had said: “Even as we speak, my team has been calling me that, ‘Look at what these people are doing’.
“They are saying they are going to impeach you, that you have gotten too far.’ They are threatening to impeach me.”
