BREAKING: Boko Haram Attack Borno IDP Camp, Sets Many Houses On Fire
Again, Boko Haram terrorists have launched a devastating attack in the Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State.
Reports obtained on Wednesday revealed that a group of suspected insurgents believed to be affiliated with Boko Haram, set fire to a significant number of recently constructed buildings that were intended for the returnees in the area.
The situation in Dikwa had already been dire, with residents forced to flee their homes and seek refuge as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
However, the situation worsened when the insurgents targeted IDPs who had ventured into the forest to gather firewood. These militants then proceeded to attack a remote village in Gajibo, where they unleashed a hail of gunfire and set ablaze over 25 newly erected houses.
Modu Kundiri, an eyewitness who was traveling from Gomboru to Maiduguri, shared his account of the incident with journalists.
He revealed that the troops stationed in the area instructed them to wait for approximately three hours at Logomani village. This delay likely aimed to ensure the safety of the travelers amidst the heightened security concerns.
The destruction caused by these suspected Boko Haram insurgents is a tragic setback for the returnees in Dikwa. It highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the local population and the urgent need for increased security measures to protect innocent civilians from such acts of violence.
“The soldiers informed us that we had to wait for about 3 hours from 11:am -2 pm before we were allowed to leave Logomani.
“I saw and counted more than 25 newly constructed houses at Gajibo village in Dkiwa LGA was on fire,” Modu told Daily Trust on the phone.
Again, another resident of Dikwa town, Sheriff Lawan, confirmed the news reporters, adding that the assailants equally planted many improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the ongoing construction site to truncate the rebuilding and resettlement processes of the state government.
“The soldiers told us that the insurgents planted many IEDs at the construction site, and they discovered some bombs already,” Sherrif said.
