BREAKING: Tinubu Suspends REA Managing Director, Makes Five Fresh Appointments

President Bola AhmedTinubu has given his approval for the indefinite suspension of the Managing Director/CEO of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad.
In addition to Ahmad, three other agency Executive Directors were suspended after the President made a fresh appointment.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday (today) by the presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale.
The other individuals affected by the President’s decision are the Executive Director of Corporate Services, Olaniyi Alaba Netufo; the executive director of Technical Services, Barka Sajou; and the Executive Director of the Rural Electrification Fund (REF), Sa’adatu Balgore.

In addition to the suspensions, Tinubu has also called for a broader investigation into the actions of the aforementioned officials regarding a fraudulent misexpenditure totalling over N1.2 billion in the last two years, with some of the funds already being recovered by anti-corruption agencies.
The president, therefore, appointed a new team to take charge of the agency. They are:
(1) Abba Abubakar Aliyu — Managing Director/CEO
(2) Ayoade Gboyega — Executive Director, Corporate Services
(3) Umar Abdullahi Umar — Executive Director, Technical Services
(4) Doris Uboh — Executive Director, Rural Electrification Fund (REF)
(5) Olufemi Akinyelure — Head of Project Management Unit, Nigeria Electrification Project
Ngelale cited Tinubu as stating that he anticipates all individuals appointed in his administration to adhere to the utmost levels of transparency and accountability while carrying out their responsibilities.
“The president reiterates his determination to elevate the yearnings of Nigerians for good governance and qualitative service delivery above the narrow interests of individuals who are entrusted to provide critical services to the Nigerian people,” the statement read.
