On Saturday, March 2, 2024, John ‘Mr Ibu’ Okafor, one of Nollywood’s most well-known comedians, passed away following 40 years of performing in the Nigerian film business.
He may be glad to honor his pledge to pursue whatever made him happy. The news of his death at the age of 62 has coincided with the broad recognition of his brilliance.

Mr. Ibu claimed that his grandfather, a fantastic comic, encouraged his interest in acting, and at the age of 18, he began performing in the late 1970s.
“I became interested in programming when I used to go to Bendel State Television to watch a live broadcast of a show called Hotel de Jordan. I was requested to play this role, and that’s how my passion in acting started.
Later, while I was working for Anambra Broadcasting Service, we had MBI in Onitsha after the state was divided, and I was in charge of the station’s Ayonocha show.
Even though Mr. Ibu began acting at a young age, he still views his 1997 part in Agony as his big break. Years before the Mr. Ibu movie, which catapulted him into stardom with a made-up persona he lived up to, it was released.
One of the most well-liked comedians in Nollywood, Mr. Ibu, will live on.
The 62-year-old’s acting career garnered the majority of his notoriety, but he had other endeavors before and after. Having gone to a technical school, he used to trade electronics before making his big break in Nollywood. He was also a boxer, but he gave up after getting beat up “like nama (cow)” by one of his teammates.
According to the actor, “I attempted photography, hairdressing, and music,” in a press release from 2007.”You see, a thing motivates me in every aspect of life I find myself,” he said.
Mr. Ibu was one of the most well-liked comedians in Nollywood, having appeared in over 200 films.
