Netflix is showing the Bashorun Ga movie by Bolanle Austen-Peters
The 18th century, during which Bashorun Ga’a was a kingmaker in the former Oyo empire, is the setting for the biography.
Before the conclusion of 2024, House of Ga’a, a historical drama about the life of the notorious Bashorun Ga’a, will be available to view on Netflix.
The revelation was made on March 6, 2024, a Wednesday, during an International Women’s Day celebration hosted by the streaming behemoth to honor notable female actors, directors, producers, and other members of the Nigerian film industry.
Bolanle Austen-Peters, the director of Man of God, an award-winning film that debuted on Netflix in 2022, also helms House of Ga’a. The biography takes place in the eighteenth century when the actual Bashorun Ga’a rose to such prominence that he installed monarchs and overthrew them for amusement.
Femi Branch, Ibrahim Chatta, Mike Afolarin, Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham, Dele Odule, Bimbo Manuel, Lateef Adedimeji, and Femi Adebayo are among the cast members. The others are Gbenga Titiloye, Willam Benson, Gabriel Afolayan, Jide ‘JBlaze’ Oyegbile, Seun Akindele, Yemi Blaq, Adeniyi Johnson, Muyiwa Ademola, and Kunle Coker.
Although the movie’s theatrical date is currently uncertain, Austen-Peters first hinted at the project when it was beginning production in May 2023. “Once again, SET! There’s something unique in the works! God be praised,” she tweeted.
“We are happy to be collaborating with the female powerhouse in the creative industry and bring to life outstanding projects that reflect their stories and promote the values we hold dear,” she stated.
This year, Netflix is anticipated to release further female-led projects like Baby Farm, To Kill a Monkey, a TV series by Kemi Adetiba; Postcards, a TV series by Hamisha Daryani Ahuja; and Òlòtūré: The Journey, a film, both by Mo Abudu.
