The Olatorera actress’s thoughts on consent during a sexual scene with Saro
The character’s actor, Oyindamola Sanni, recently told Pulse Nigeria, “I feel she was just in love.”
The Netflix series Aníkúlápó: Rise of the Spectre, directed by Kunle Afolayan, features multiple sex scenes in which Olatorera (Oyindamola Sanni) provides consent to Saro (Kunle Remi) during the encounter but later retracts it mid-action.
The aforementioned scenes provide a clear example of how consent can become ambiguous during sexual encounters, a topic that has long been the focus of heated discussion on social media.
Sanni recently stated to Pulse Nigeria, “I feel like she was just in love.” “You are aware of your vulnerability when you are in love.
Thus, it wasn’t that she desired the intercourse in the first place, but it did happen. She nevertheless remained reserved and desired it at the same time, she continued.
Olatorera is the obvious victim in this scenario, according to Sanni. She claimed that although she was just interested in a more subdued kind of affection, Saro was the one who put her in that predicament.
He placed her in that situation because she loved him. It’s not as though she had a need for intercourse. She said, “[The sex] came alongside the love and she was crazy in love.”
Torera’s youthful inexperience as a sensuous maiden was another quality that allowed Sanni to agree to play the part. “Olatorera does a great deal of things, and she achieves them with such ease and you’re unaware that she’s accomplishing it,” she remarked. It was the character’s seamless ability to grab attention. Despite her beauty, she had a quiet personality. She continued, “Yet she was just a lover girl.”
However, assuming the part wasn’t simple. Sanni had to perform the village Belle in Torera during the weekdays of filming; on the weekends, she traveled from Igbojaye, in Oyo, where the movie was filmed, to Lagos, where she took care of her ailing father. Later thereafter, he passed away. She was focusing on her master’s thesis at that exact time.
It was quite difficult, she admitted. “I had a lot going on at home, so I was juggling Lagos and Igbojaye,” she continued.
She mentioned how comfortable dealing with Kunle Remi made her feel on set, even while filming the sex scenes. She had previously collaborated with him on A Naija Christmas, which was also directed by Afolayan.
We clicked,” she remarked. We didn’t appear to be acting. All we felt like was that we were playing. So he simplified things for me. We had a friendship,” she continued.
