The newly appointed Chairman of CIAN, Ajayi Franklin, called the event “a new beginning in the history of the institute” and said that the Abuja Chapter was ready for innovation, growth, and strengthened professionalism.
“We are not just auctioneers; we are professionals, entrepreneurs, and leaders in our respective fields,” Franklin said. The Abuja Chapter of the Certified Institute of Auctioneers Nigeria has unveiled a two-year plan to create a dynamic, inclusive, and forward-thinking community of auctioneers in the Federal Capital Territory.
Franklin emphasized that the establishment of a fully operational auction house, monthly auctions at the secretariat for practical experience, regular training and capacity-building programs, and the development of a “one-stop-shop” secretariat with all the equipment required for auctioneering would be the main priorities of his administration.
“We want to give our members the information and abilities they need to succeed in their careers,” he stated.
Franklin also emphasized the need for advocacy and partnerships, strengthening relationships with government agencies, regulatory bodies, and industry associations, and advocating for policies that promote auctioneering in Nigeria. “We will work tirelessly to promote the interests of our members and the profession as a whole,” he said.
The chairman also emphasized the importance of membership engagement, promising to recruit at least 20 active professional auctioneers, establish mentorship programs pairing experienced members with newcomers, and organize an annual chapter conference and end-of-year social gathering.
Through a robust system of checks and balances, the chairman promised that his government will maintain the greatest standards of accountability, governance, and careful resource management. He declared, “We are dedicated to accountability and transparency in all of our dealings.”
In order to advance the profession, encourage one another, and pursue greatness, Franklin advised members to band together. Additionally, he urged visitors, partners, and interested parties to work with the chapter to promote auctioneering and support Nigeria’s economic development. “With your help, I pledge to put in endless effort to accomplish our objectives with commitment, openness, and responsibility,” he stated. “By working together, we can create a more robust and active auctioneer community in Abuja.”
