Oba Abimbola Owoade, the Alaafin of Oyo-elect, is poised to initiate a 21-day series of traditional rites as he assumes his role as the new monarch of the town.
On Friday, the state governor, Seyi Makinde, officially announced Owoade’s appointment as the new leader of this historic Yoruba community. The following Monday, he was presented with the staff of office.
Owoade takes over from the late Alaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, who passed away three years ago.
The ceremony was attended by the kingmakers, known as Oyomesi, along with high-ranking government officials and distinguished individuals from the state.
After the presentation, a source, who wished to remain anonymous, informed PUNCH Online that the new Alaafin has traveled to Oyo town, where he is anticipated to be welcomed by his subjects. His 21 days of traditional rites for his ascension to the throne are set to commence immediately.
“Oba Owoade has headed to Oyo town to meet the sons and daughters of Oyo town and would proceed for his mandatory 21 days traditional rites for the ascension to the throne of his forefathers,” he said.
