Criminal Gangs Terrorizing Edo Region Arrested
In an ongoing effort to eliminate criminal activities in Edo State and enhance safety for law-abiding citizens, troops from Headquarters 4 Brigade Nigerian Army conducted a raid on the hideouts of suspected criminal gangs in gbelebu village, Okomu forest in Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State.
The Nigerian Army said the latest arrests were made based on credible intelligence received early Thursday morning.
Despite the brigade’s vigilance, one of the wanted criminals, Joshua Ewaiken, also known as General, managed to evade capture and is currently on the run.
However, several of his associates were apprehended during the operation. The individuals in custody include Shell Joshua, Godspower Joshua (siblings of the fugitive suspect), as well as Obuh Ayawe and Japhet Uyaboerizha.
Shell Joshua and his accomplices are said to have been involved in criminal activities like abduction, theft, blackmailing, sexual assault, illegal possession of weapons, intimidation of residents, and neighboring communities, among other offenses.
Items recovered from the suspects include a Toyota Highlander, various illegal substances, and a cellphone.
The individuals are now under military custody for additional inquiries.
Reacting, the Commander of the 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ebenezer Oduyebo, praised the troops for their relentless work in preventing criminals and those who undermine the economy from operating freely within the Brigade’s Area of Operations.
