Economic Hardship: Buhari Sold Nigeria’s Future – Gov Mutfwang Alleges

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State made a strong assertion on Monday, attributing the current economic challenges faced by Nigerians to former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of 22 Special Advisers and heads of government agencies at the Government House in Jos yesterday, Mutfwang emphasized that the nation’s future was compromised during the previous administration.

The Plateau State Governor expressed his concerns about the critical state of the country. He stressed the importance of prioritizing governance over politics after elections.
Despite being from a different political party, Mutfwang felt obligated to inform Nigerians about the reality that the current government inherited a more dire economic situation than in 1999.

Mutfwang further highlighted that Buhari’s tenure left the economy in a disastrous state for his successor, President Bola Tinubu.
He said: “This government inherited an economy where we simply printed money up to the tune of N30tn and shared.
“This government inherited an economy where the crude oil we’re yet to take out of the ground had been sold in advance.
“So, when you’re talking about the fall of the naira, it’s not rocket science. We sold our future under the last administration.”

He stated that this clarifies the reason behind the hunger and extensive looting of warehouses and food stores throughout the nation.
“No wonder you’re hearing of riots today, people intercepting food on the way. We are lucky on the plateau that perhaps we have more food than many other states.
“And I pray that the time will not come on the Plateau that we will see this kind of riot for food, but it means we must roll up our sleeves and get to work.
“And that is why, for us as a government, when we announced one of the positions that talked about food security, people were laughing but it is a serious issue,” Mutfwang stated.

Mutfwang also mentioned that his government intends to establish a dedicated agricultural processing zone in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, in collaboration with the African Development Bank, with a substantial investment of $300 million.
He implored the newly appointed individuals to assist the government in rectifying the unfavorable circumstances in the state, emphasizing that the people of Plateau have endured significant hardships and disruptions for far too long.

“You know of the bloodshed on the Plateau. The time is now to say enough is enough,” he added
According to a report by Daily Post, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has revealed that the current financial difficulties in the country are a direct consequence of President Bola Tinubu’s administration inheriting an empty treasury when they assumed power a few months ago.
Ribadu acknowledged the significant financial constraints that are impacting budgetary allocations. However, he assured the nation that the federal government is fully committed to maintaining a strong and sustainable defense management and mechanism.
In the meantime, the country is facing a food crisis and a sharp increase in prices of goods and services, which has resulted in the looting of food stores and warehouses across the nation.
