Wayne Rooney, the former captain of Manchester United, claims that the team’s identity and spirit have vanished and that he does not believe manager Ruben Amorim can restore things.
United’s all-time top scorer called the team “broken” and said that he now goes to games expecting them to lose in an interview with BBC Sounds’ most recent episode of The Wayne Rooney Show.
After Manchester United’s 3-1 loss to Brentford on Saturday, they have 34 points from Amorim’s 33 league games in charge and have yet to win back-to-back games, according to BBC Sport on Monday.
Despite the devastating setback that dropped them to 14th place in the Premier League standings, the team is reportedly still backing their head coach.
Rooney, however, went on to say that some of the team’s current players “don’t deserve to wear the shirt,” that the team “needs a new engine,” and that fans are “waiting for the club to crumble.”
The former England striker, who won five league titles in his 13 years at Old Trafford, stated, “I am not seeing anything which is giving me any confidence; there needs to be big changes in my opinion.”
“Players, manager, whatever it is. Whatever it takes to get Manchester Untied back,” Rooney said.
