Google.org, a reputable international centre for AI excellence in government, has launched an Apolitical Government Artificial Intelligence (AI) Campus skills training for Nigerian public personnel.
Google revealed the cooperation with the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy on Thursday in Abuja.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the AI Campus will offer public officials a wide range of useful materials.
Nigeria views AI as a significant driver of productivity across its main industries, according to Minister Dr. Bosun Tijani, who also underlined the vital role AI capabilities play in government.
We have been investing resources to make sure that we can assist our public officials and civil servants in a way that makes AI a natural part of their work.
“To use it to better serve our people or to expedite and reduce the amount of time we spend administering our processes.”
“This is the reason we are so thrilled about this opportunity and Google’s support,” he stated.
Olumide Balogun, Google’s West Africa Director, discussed why the company is backing the initiative and described supporting Nigeria’s digital transformation as an investment in the people who will determine its future.
According to Olumide, Google will collaborate closely with public sector leaders and practitioners to exchange knowledge and offer technological tools that would empower civil workers.
Nigerian communities might gain from better social results, more intelligent solutions, and increased involvement in a rapidly evolving digital economy, he claimed, thanks to AI.
“We are sharing knowledge and offering technical resources that enable them to provide better, more effective government services,” he stated. “We are sharing knowledge and offering technical resources that enable them to provide better, more effective government services,” he stated.
Apolitical Vice President Chris Ferguson reaffirmed the importance of upskilling, stating that organised training is essential to the effective implementation of AI in government.
“This initiative is a trailblazing endeavour that will give Nigerian public workers the skills they need to confidently and strategically lead the digital revolution.
As part of our larger commitment over the past few years to promote AI use and digital skills in Nigeria, we are bringing the Apolitical Government AI Campus to the country.
“This includes collaborations to improve digital education, support regional AI innovation hubs, and increase internet access.” This includes collaborations to improve digital education, assist regional AI innovation clusters, and increase internet access.
Together, these initiatives seek to create a strong AI ecosystem that supports Nigeria’s long-term social and economic advancement, he stated.
Its Communications and Public Relations Manager, West Africa, Mr. Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, had earlier stated that artificial intelligence was becoming a major force behind Nigeria’s digital revolution.
According to Apolitical study, 72% of government leaders were conducting AI pilots, but more than half indicated they lacked a thorough plan for implementing AI, Kola-Ogunlade added.
According to him, the economy might grow by more than $8 for every dollar spent on AI.
In order to take advantage of this chance, Nigeria need a public sector workforce with AI expertise that can boost innovation, enhance citizen-centered services, and support long-term economic expansion.
In addition to expert-led events, tools, and frameworks, they will have access to government-specific online training that covers everything from AI basics to AI leadership.
All of them are intended to assist public officials in implementing AI knowledge in their field.
Additionally, they can become a part of the global AI in Government community, which is a forum for thousands of government colleagues worldwide to exchange AI best practices and insights.
