The Kebbi State Police Command has initiated statewide enforcement of third-party motor insurance, acting on directives from the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun. This initiative aims to enforce mandatory insurance coverage for all vehicles while simultaneously improving road safety across the state. The enforcement operation, which began on February 1, 2025, is being directly supervised by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, in the state capital, with Area Commanders instructed to implement similar measures within their respective jurisdictions.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, emphasized the importance of third-party insurance, highlighting its role in protecting both motorists and other road users. He urged all vehicle owners in Kebbi State to ensure their insurance policies are current to avoid potential penalties. This enforcement action is part of a wider strategy by the Nigeria Police Force to regulate road use, mitigate the financial risks associated with accidents, and foster a culture of responsible driving among motorists.
The police spokesman, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, reaffirmed the command’s dedication to enforcing the law and ensuring compliance. He encouraged Kebbi State residents to cooperate with law enforcement officers during this exercise, assuring them that it is designed to promote public safety and maintain order on the roads. Motorists are strongly advised to obtain valid third-party insurance immediately, as those found in violation of the law will face penalties.
