No helmet, no riding on highways, FRSC warns motorcyclists

The Ondo State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has reaffirmed its intention to arrest any biker who is not wearing a crash helmet while riding on the state’s highways.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria in Akure, the state capital, on Sunday, Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, the FRSC State Sector Commander, issued the warning.

According to Ibitoye, the corps has increased its efforts to apprehend, seize, and prosecute any biker who is not wearing a helmet while riding on a highway.

He clarified that the majority of motorcycle accidents involving riders who were not wearing crash helmets typically ended in fatalities, with limbs, thighs, and heads being broken.

Motorcycle riders should steer clear of highways altogether, but if they must go there, they should wear crash helmets and refrain from vying with other cars, especially large ones.

“Please let the car go and keep your own life intact; don’t assert any rights as an exposed road user on the route.

Any motorcyclist who rides on a highway without wearing a helmet faces penalties.

Although the motorcycle will be seized and a fine will be paid, that is not the main point of what we are advocating. First and foremost, we are advocating for safety and helmet use,” he stated.

Therefore, for their own safety, the commander urged traditionalists, religious leaders, and title holders who ride motorcycles without crash helmets to stop having such views.

“Don’t claim that you just need to wear your turban or cap because you are a religious person or a title holder.

“No, don’t go riding if you want to amuse your titles. Please put your personal safety before the title you are discussing.

“When it occurs, it takes you as a human and your body goes for it as a motorcycle rider. Crash does not know religion, tradition, or titles.”

“Therefore, if you have to ride, put on your crash helmet; if not, please get into a car or other vehicle. “Avoid getting killed without warning,” Ibitoye advised.
