The government of Oyo State has stated that it intends to implement a digital address system for the numbering of houses and streets throughout the state.
The revelation was made by Mr. Williams Funmilayo, the Commissioner for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, during a meeting with Smart City Development Konsult Limited on Wednesday in the ministry’s conference room.
He said that the initiative is a component of the governor’s pledge and that the plan is a component of the Omititun 2.0 Sustainable Development Goals.
According to Akin-funmilayo, the Smart City Development Consult’s presentation is a component of the preparatory phase that precedes the presentation to the executive level.
When the idea is finally put into action, he clarified, it will provide simple identification, building locations, and a state emergency response.
“As they say, a promise made is a promise kept,” he stated. His Excellency made a number of commitments in his Omituntun 2.0 Roadmap to Sustainable Development. House numbering is one of the responsibilities of the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development. As His Excellency’s lieutenants, we are doing everything in our power to guarantee that house numbering is realized out of all the promises made, which form a covenant between His Excellency and the good people of Oyo State.
“House numbering entails giving each building a distinct number. It is impossible to overstate how important this activity is. One of its many advantages is that it makes building identification and location simple. More significantly, it is essential for responding to crises, whether they include fires or medical situations that call for an ambulance.
How would emergency personnel find the building if there were no house numbers? Confusion, repeated calls, and sometimes lethal delays result. We are all aware of how important time is in emergency situations. Property losses or, worse, fatalities could result from delays. There could be disastrous results if ambulances or fire departments are unable to find the correct building in time.
We are dedicated to this house numbering effort for these and much other reasons. We think it is critical to begin the process before we leave office, even if this government has less than two years left. I spoke with the governor about this decision with Prof. Musibau Babatunde, the commissioner for budget and economy planning, and he supported it. Therefore, this presentation is a component of the preparatory work that needs to be done before it is forwarded to the executive council level,” he continued.
