Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, called for Nigerians to embrace one another and create a united nation on Sunday, regardless of their political, religious, or tribal affiliations.
When Obi visited Oba Rashidi Ladoja, the Olubadan-designate, at his Bodija private home in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, he offered this advice: “Loving each other became imperative as this would help to build a better Nigeria.”
Before the installation, he declared, “I’m here to first pay my sincere respect to royalty, to the Olubadan-designate.” I’m here to show my respect for the man I hold in the highest regard.
“I’m here to congratulate him on becoming Ibadanland’s 44th Olubadan. Nigeria, selfless leadership, and leadership dedicated to transforming our society are the subjects of my tour.
“Can we love one another and come together to create a better nation? This is the only country we have. For everyone’s sake, we must all work together to construct it,” he suggested.
Ibadan is crucial to Nigeria’s political, social, and economic development, according to the former governor of Anambra State.
Obi expressed hope that Ladoja will take Ibadan to desirable places by leveraging his extensive background as a former senator, governor, and business magnate.
“Ladoja will apply his extensive experience as Olubadan,” he stated. Ibadan is crucial to Nigeria’s development and highly strategic. He will also have everything he needs to be successful because he was a senator, governor, and business magnate. And for the sake of a united Nigeria, I will back him as Olubadan.
He emphasized that “many people from different parts of Nigeria attended most of the schools in Ibadan, University of Ibadan, for example, and they are making it in all areas of human endeavors.”
“I just see my appointment as Olubadan as another opportunity for service,” Oba Ladoja replied. A lot of people mistakenly think that the throne is for show.
He declared, “The glitzy days are over; now it’s about service, what you have on the table for the people in society.”
Obi was joined by Yunusa Tanko, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the LP’s 2023 candidate for governor of Lagos State, and others.
In a related development, on Sunday, Members of the House of Representatives Sina Oyedeji, who represents the Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Iwajowa/Kajola Federal Constituency, and Adebayo Adepoju, who represents the Ibarapa North/Ibarapa Central Federal Constituency on behalf of the Peoples Democratic Party, paid Oba Ladoja a visit at his private home.
They clarified that the reason for the visit was that the Olubadan, the previous governor, is their father.
Speaking to reporters following the visit, the pair claimed that the Olubadan-designate pushed them to succeed for their people.
“We came here to honor our Baba, the new Olubadan of Ibadanland,” they declared. In Nigeria, he is a huge man.
He is an Olubadan from Nigeria, not Ibadanland, as I informed him. It is our responsibility to honor him. We are unable to wait till after the coronation. Ladoja gave us advice on how to succeed, telling us to make sure we provide for and benefit our people.
He instructed us to ensure that we delivered and did not let our folks down. Those are the topics we talked about.
