Police operatives attached to the Federal Capital Territory Command have arrested a former soldier, Gabriel Elihu, over his alleged involvement in an attempted

kidnapping within the FCT.

Elihu was reportedly arrested and taken into custody on March 17 after trying to abduct two individuals traveling from Gishiri village to H-Medix in the Gwarimpa

region of Abuja.

The suspect, who resides in Apo Mechanic Village in the FCT, reportedly collaborated with a group of accomplices and used an unregistered Toyota Hilux to follow

the victims.

They robbed the victims of their belongings and tried to take them to an undisclosed location, but the victims managed to raise an alarm.

Upon being informed of the incident, the police intervened, apprehended the suspects, and recovered a black Toyota Hilux with license plate number NBB 03 AH

(Nasarawa).

Additionally, a jackknife and various military items were seized during the operation. The suspects were paraded at the FCT Police Command in Abuja, where the

FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, provided details about the case.

During an interview with journalists, Elihu revealed that his friend, who happens to be a serving military personnel, introduced him to the practice of extorting

money from unsuspecting individuals.

This act is particularly carried out when they are dressed in military uniforms.

“My friend introduced me to it on March 17. I had even forgotten about this uniform because if you check the uniform, you will see that this is not the recent one.

This is the one they gave everyone during the election eight years back.

“So, my friend said that when he was in Port Harcourt, and he didn’t have money, they knew how to block Yahoo boys and check their phone profiles to get them

to settle them.

“He told us that if they settle (speaking about the March 17 incident), he will give us something to ‘hold body’, that is how the thing happened,” he told the PUNCH.

The dismissed soldier confessed that it was the first time he participated in such an act and regretted his decision.
