Police Reacts As Catholic Priest Shoots Boy Dead In Imo

The Imo State command of the Nigeria Police Force has verified that an unidentified Catholic priest fatally shot a boy who had ignited firecrackers on the church grounds.

Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, provided this information during an interview with DAILY POST on Thursday.

However, Okoye did not disclose the identity of the priest, the parish he belongs to, or the name of the deceased when questioned by DAILY POST.

He stated that the police had initiated an investigation into the matter.

“The police have commenced an investigation into the matter. This is all I can say for the moment,” he told DAILY POST.

Although details are still sketchy on the incident, earlier, in a Facebook post shared through the account ‘For The Love Of Anambra’ on Wednesday, it was reported that after the deceased set off the knockouts, “the priest, whose identity remains undisclosed, picked up a firearm and fatally shot him”.

The incident has generated outrage on social media as of the time of filing this report.
