According to the Nigerian Railway Corporation, trains on the Port Harcourt-Aba sector will start running normally again on Tuesday.
Dr. Onyedikachi Onovo, the Eastern District’s District Public Relations Officer, made this announcement on Monday in Enugu on behalf of the NRC management.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, on September 5, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, the Managing Director of the NRC, announced that the train service from Port Harcourt to Aba had been suspended for regular maintenance.
According to Onovo, “a social media video featuring Port Harcourt-Aba Train Service passengers trekking great distances and even crossing a stream in search of alternate modes of transportation has caught the attention of NRC.”
“This came after the train broke down at Imo River on Wednesday, September 3 at approximately 16:22 hours.”
He continued by saying that the corporation’s management had previously expressed apologies for the problems the prestigious passengers had to endure on the day of the occurrence.
He clarified that the train, which was traveling from Aba to Port Harcourt, unexpectedly acquired an odd problem and ceased to operate.
“An alternative engine, Loco 2306, was quickly deployed to rescue the stranded train,” he said, adding that the issue remained despite the NRC’s engineers’ best efforts to revive the locomotive.
“Some passengers were transported back safely, while others opted to take different routes to reach their destinations.”
In accordance with improved quality control, he emphasized that the train had since been brought back to Port Harcourt and was presently undergoing extensive repairs to make sure it was ready to resume service.
All passengers impacted by this disruption are encouraged to come to our stations in Port Harcourt or Aba with proof of payment in order to either receive a refund or have their train travel replaced, he stated.
“The public’s worries are acknowledged, and we sincerely appreciate our passengers’ patience and understanding during this time.
“Under the Renewed Hope Agenda and our rail revitalization program, the NRC management remained committed to transforming the corporation and guaranteeing safer, more dependable, and more customer-friendly rail services nationwide.”
