The Native Filmmakers program has made and put out three Nigerian films thus far.
Prime Video has started to broadcast “It Blooms in June.”
With a script by Gabriel Odigiri, the film explores the poignant tale of a father and daughter navigating the difficulties of love, life, heartbreak, and the process of letting go. The two find themselves growing closer as they try to replace the vacuum left by the death of the cherished mother and wife.

The project, which is being directed by Korede Azeez, a protégé of the First Projects group, stars Susan Pwajok, Femi Jacobs, Kiki Omeli, Kem Ajieh, and Michael Dappa.

Dotun Olakunri and Steve Gukas, the creators of the First Features project, are producing It Blooms in June. The goal of the initiative is an attempt to support and empower a new wave of forward-thinking filmmakers by giving them enough money as well as guidance to make their first feature films.

Twelve films are anticipated to be made in total; thus far, Cake and Love & Life have been released in addition to the June premiere of It Blooms. A Father’s Love and Kill Boro, two more initiative films, completed principal photography in 2023 and are scheduled for release soon.
