Retired AIG to Lead Probe into Fatal Osun Amotekun Killings

A retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police named Wale Abbas will head the inquiry into the alleged murders of three Akinlalu town residents by members of the state’s Amotekun Corps, according to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Abbas, who is currently the Chairman of the Osun Amotekun Board, has been instructed to make sure that the Corps Commander, Adekunle Omoyele, is thoroughly investigated for his involvement in the incident.

During a condolence visit to Akinlalu on Monday, Governor Adeleke revealed this information, promising the injured victims full medical care and ensuring that justice would be done.

Adeleke stated, “We are working on the demand for Omoyele to be suspended.” “I have instructed Wale Abbas, the chairman of the Amotekun Board, to travel to Abuja and make sure a comprehensive inquiry is conducted. The ventilator required for the victims is now in place, and those in the hospital are receiving care. Right now, their care is my first priority.

In addition, he praised the young people of the town for keeping the peace in spite of the tragedy and urged them to maintain composure while the investigation is ongoing.

Musbau Adeboye, the Akinlalu Youth Leader, had already called for Omoyele to be suspended and investigated in connection with the murders.

On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, Amotekun agents allegedly broke into the town, shot multiple locals, and killed three people, causing considerable indignation.

The Osun State Police Command revealed after the event that Adeagbo Kadijat (22), Oke-Ila Oyebamiji (60), and Fayomi Toheeb (19) were shot, while Ibrahim Oyebamiji (26), Sefiu Oyebamiji, and Abiola Olutayo were slain.

The corpses of the victims were taken from the location by Amotekun agents, according to the police report.

While acknowledging that three persons were killed, the Osun Amotekun leadership maintained that the operatives acted in self-defence after a gunfight with thugs who were purportedly trying to take firearms away from the Corps.

A special team was then sent in by Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, to take over the investigation. Five Amotekun operatives have since been taken into custody by the team, but Omoyele has reportedly ignored repeated requests to clarify his involvement in the murders, according to police sources.
