Six Injured in Abuja-Kaduna Train Accident, NSIB Confirms

A go-team was sent to the scene to collect evidence, speak with stakeholders, and start an investigation into the accident after a train headed for Kaduna derailed at KM 49 between Kubwa Station and Asham Station on Tuesday at around 11:09 am, resulting in six passengers being injured, according to the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau Six.

The accident happened at KM 49, between Kubwa Station and Asham Station, according to a statement released on Tuesday and signed by Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, Director, Public Affairs and Family Assistance, Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau. As of right now, six passengers were reported injured, but no fatalities were reported.

A go-team has been sent to the scene to gather evidence, speak with stakeholders, and start looking into what caused the disaster, the NSIB confirmed.

The message said, in part, “As of right now, there have been no reported fatalities and six people have been injured. A go-team has been deployed to the site to gather evidence, engage relevant stakeholders, and commence an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The Bureau offers its condolences to the injured and offers assistance to all impacted passengers. In order to provide safety advice to stop a repeat, the investigation will concentrate on determining the immediate and underlying causes of the disaster,” the statement said.

In his comments regarding the incident, Captain Alex Badeh, the Director General of the NSIB, further stated that,

We have the utmost sympathy for everyone who was hurt. To make sure the underlying cause of this disaster is found, the Bureau has sent investigators to the scene.

“We pledge to conduct an open and impartial inquiry to guarantee safer rail transportation for Nigerians.”

The Bureau stated that updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.

The incident was alleged to have occurred along the busy route immediately after the train left Abuja about 11 a.m. on its way to Kaduna.

The derailment drove passengers into fear, prompting many to leave for safety, while eyewitnesses described the situation as chaotic and horrifying.

According to one traveler, the train abruptly stopped on the tracks, causing confusion as passengers hurried out of the impacted cabins.
