Sixteen Lawmakers Suspended After Plot To Impeach Zamfara Speaker
There was a mild drama at a plenary on Monday after seven out of the twenty-four members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly took the decision to suspend sixteen members who had previously threatened to impeach the Speaker of the House, Bilyaminu Moriki, last Thursday.
The suspended members were accused of forcefully entering the offices of the clerk of the house and the sergeant at arms, causing damage to property within the assembly complex.
Speaker Moriki, leading the House, deemed the legislative sitting conducted by eighteen members last Thursday as unlawful.
Residents of the North-West state are urged to ignore the circulating news about the suspension of the speaker.
Additionally, lawmakers have accused certain politicians from outside the state of funding the disruption of Governor Dauda Lawal’s government in Zamfara State.
Last Thursday, eighteen members, led by what they referred to as Speaker Pro-Tempo, suspended Moriki due to his prolonged absence in the state during the increased bandit activities.
