Troops of Operation Hadarin Daji, in partnership with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have effectively thwarted a retaliatory assault by terrorists on Bilbis town, located in the Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, during the early hours of Sunday.
According to intelligence sources relayed to AIT, this attack was a direct reaction to the recent elimination of a notorious terrorist leader, Kachalla Jafaru, who was killed in a military operation in Bilbis.
Jafaru had gained infamy for his involvement in kidnappings for ransom and instilling fear in communities such as Hayin Gada and Kunchin Kalgo.
He was also the sibling of Ado Aliero, a well-known bandit leader featured on the Nigerian military’s most-wanted list.
In the wake of Jafaru’s death, local terrorists reportedly organized for a retaliatory strike on Bilbis. Security forces, having been alerted to the impending threat, initiated a counter-operation around 11:30 a.m., engaging the attackers in a fierce gunfight that continued until 4:00 p.m.
The combined efforts of the military and CJTF successfully repelled the attack, resulting in the deaths of several terrorists and significant injuries to others. Additionally, they recovered weapons and numerous motorcycles utilized by the assailants.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that security personnel were seen transporting the bodies of five terrorists on motorcycles and one in a vehicle, along with other seized items.
