Tunisia seal qualification for 2026 World Cup

Tunisia defeated Equatorial Guinea 1-0 on Monday, earning them a spot in the 2026 World Cup in North America thanks to a goal from Mohamed Ben Romdhane in extra time.

Tunisia’s victory gave them an insurmountable lead in Group H and made them the second African country to qualify for the tournament, following Morocco.

With one game remaining, Namibia is in second position with 22 points after eight games, but they are unable to match the Carthage Eagles’ total.

After being set up by Firas Chaouat, midfielder Ben Romdhane of the Egyptian and African powerhouse Al Ahly scored in the 94th minute.

Players from nine different countries, including Burnley’s Hannibal Mejbri, were among Tunisia’s starting lineup in Malabo.

Sami Trabelsi, a former defender who captained Tunisia at the 1998 World Cup in France, is the Eagles’ coach.

In other early games, Morocco won 2-0 in Zambia thanks to goals from Youssef en Nesyri and Hamza Igamane, keeping their perfect record in Group E.

Even if leaders Algeria defeat Guinea on the road, they will not be able to advance from Group G due to Mozambique’s 2-0 victory against Botswana in Maputo.
